Yokokan
Yokokan is the residence of the Matsudaira family of the Fukui Domain, and came to be known as “Osensui Yashiki” in the Edo period. The numerous examples of shoin architecture built around a pond in close relation to a garden and the landscaped strolling garden built around a serene pond are widely known as one of the classic gardens of the mid-Edo period.
While the buildings were destroyed during the Fukui air raid, they were rebuilt to Osensui’s original 1823 garden pond blueprint after being designated as a place of scenic beauty in 1982. Today, you can not only enjoy the buildings and pond, but also the elegance of the garden's pea gravel, stone arrangements, and trees in any season.
