Fukui Prefecture Varve Museum
Sediments with varves (nenkou) have been piling up at the bottom of Lake Suigetsu, one of the Five Lakes of Mikata, for 70,000 years. The old, 45-meter-long varves are used around the world to unravel mysteries of ancient history. The exhibitions in the Varve Museum are a must see!
